LIC Administrators

Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship (LIC) administrators play a central role in supporting the structure, coordination, and success of LIC programs across medical schools. This section of the CLIC website is dedicated to sharing information, resources, and practices that support LIC administrators in their work.

LIC administrators often operate at the centre of complex academic and operational systems. They serve as key points of connection between institutional leadership, academic and curricular structures, faculty, clinical sites, and learners. Their responsibilities commonly include ensuring clear understanding and implementation of program and curriculum requirements, supporting students and faculty, coordinating schedules and logistics, managing budgets, and contributing to faculty development and site support.

In many institutions, particularly those where LIC models have been introduced after the establishment of traditional curricula, administrative work also involves building and maintaining strong relationships among academic affairs, sponsoring departments, clinical partners, and learners. Much of this work occurs behind the scenes and requires adaptability, collaboration, and creative problem solving.

Administrative roles vary widely across institutions and settings. The responsibilities associated with an urban LIC may differ significantly from those in rural or distributed programs. Recognition and resourcing of administrative roles also differ between organizations. For this reason, connecting with other LIC administrators provides valuable opportunities to share knowledge, compare approaches, and strengthen professional support networks. CLIC conferences have also increasingly recognized the importance of LIC administrators by creating dedicated spaces for collaboration and discussion.

This section of the CLIC website serves as a shared resource hub. LIC administrators are encouraged to contribute best practices, tools, and insights developed within their institutions for potential inclusion on the website. Informal peer connection and discussion are also supported through the LIC Administrators social media community, hosted by Jakki Janero at Colorado State University School of Medicine.
